Laura DeRuyter was born in Rotterdam, Holland and moved to Seattle when she was a teenager with her
mother and father, cycling champion of the Netherlands, Wim deRuyter.
Working in pastels or oils, DeRuyter captures the soul of her subjects, whether human or animal,
through her unique use of light and her ability to reach deep into the eyes of her subject. DeRuyter
has focused on portraiture - adults, children, and animals. Her works have been commissioned by
numerous and varied groups from bankers in Geneva, Switzerland and studios in Los Angeles to
private celebrities. Her illustrations appear in schoolbooks and in films such as "Beethoven" (Universal Studios). |
